HOWTO: Start an open-source radio station
Time: Aug 29, 11:30 a.m.
When a local community FM station suddenly fired their daytime on-air volunteers, the community came together and built a new home for them online. From the on-air desktop machine to the back-end databases and from their ISP to their custom features on their site, UtahFM is based entirely around Open Source. In this presentation, Michael Place, the co-founder of UtahFM who also works during the day in Research and Development for XMission Internet, will explain how you can use open source to do the same.
About Michael Place
Michael Place (XMission Internet)

During the daytime hours, Michael Place works in the Research and Development division of XMission Internet, but he spends the rest of his time working on an open-source radio station with 50 part-time volunteers and a 24-7 programming schedule. Found on the web at utahfm.org, the station was built using open source software and tools from conception to reality in just under six weeks.
